Famous children’s book author Max Kruse achieved his major breakthrough in 1969 with his book “URMEL aus dem Eis”. URMEL soon became a classic children’s book and a star on the stage of the Augsburger Puppenkiste. For more than 20 years, the eight episodes of the puppet theatre show have been successfully airing on ARD and third channels year after year.

URMEL and his friends live on Titiwu Island, one of the last islands where animals still live undisturbed. The stories on URMEL thrive on their particular language, hilarious plays on words and a special sense of humour. In summer 2006 URMEL aus dem Eis (“Impy's Island”) conquered the silver screens. The impressive 3D animation film in state-of-the-arts CGI technology and the inspiring adventures of the little URMEL and his friends guarantee excitement, fun and entertainment for the whole family. A year later the sequel URMEL voll in Fahrt (“Impy's Wonderland”) followed, also a CGI production. URMEL is also official mascot of the German National Ice Hockey Team and the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships 2010 in Germany.
