Changsha becomes 'first-tier city' on summer night life

According to the Report on Summer Night Life 2021 released by Ele.Me recently, among the Top 20 cities for summer night life, Changsha has replaced Shenzhen as the "first-tier" vibrant city, along with Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

According to the data of Ele.Me, the night take-out consumption is expanding, with orders from night camping sites, gyms and resort hotels increasing by more than 30% month-on-month, and more than double year-on-year. Frozen dessert and crayfish are still the most popular night snacks this summer. 

Since the start of summer, orders for cold drinks and crayfish on Ele.Me have increased by four times and one time respectively. At the same time, as more and more young people have enhanced their awareness of self-discipline and healthy life, healthy night snacks such as fruit mix, fresh-cut fruits and salad have also become popular this summer, with orders increasing by more than 50%.

The report released city rankings according to data such as the number and variety of businesses in operation at night, the proportion of deliverymen and consumers, and the amount of consumption. 

Changsha has successfully surpassed Shenzhen to become a "first-tier" city for its high consumption capacity and various nightlife scenes. At the same time, Xiamen, Sanya, Quanzhou and Wenzhou have also ranked among the "new top tier" cities of night vitality.

Since the beginning of summer, the orders for night take-out in Changsha have increased by nearly 30% month-on-month, ranking first in the province. In terms of regions, Yuelu District, Yuhua District and Tianxin District are the top three of night consumption vitality. In terms of growth rate, orders from Liuyang City and Wangcheng District increased by more than 30% month-on-month, and the potential of night consumption exceeded other regions.

The most popular snacks are fried chicken, barbecue and milk tea. Among them, milk tea is more welcomed than burger and fries compared with last year, with orders up 130 percent. At the same time, healthy nigh snacks gained more popularity among young people in Changsha. The orders of light food like salad nearly doubled, and those of fresh-cut fruits increased more than ten times. Nighttime take-out snacks and daily necessities have also become consumption habits, with orders increasing nearly fivefold.

The nightlife scenes of Changsha people are also quite diverse. As the representative of the sleepless city in central China, about 50% of the night orders in Changsha come from office buildings, shopping malls and hotels and other workplaces and entertainment venues. For example, in the bustling IFS at night, many orders are delivered to hotels, KTV and the like in the business circle.

The report found that in cities such as Changsha and Wuhan, the unit price of food delivered at night is significantly higher than the average for the whole day. 

Taking Changsha as an example, the unit price of snacks at night is nearly 25% higher than that of the whole day, which is related to the preference of Changsha citizens for night snacks. Except for rice noodles, Changsha citizens have significantly higher preference for snacks with slightly higher unit price, such as crayfish, fruit and snacks, than those in other cities.
