After reading the study for myself I believe acoustic conservation behavior research may aid not only in threatended species monitoring but help inform land and other relevant managers , for more effective management and decision making.

In the past radio transmitters could not be placed on hatchlings as they were just too small and if any hatchlings had been released many were presumed to be dead.

Thanks to the new harmonic tracking technology, however, researchers were able to follow the 10 hatchlings through the fall. A month into the project, five were still trackable. In early November, one lizard had buried itself for hibernation, three had lost their tags by shedding their skin, and one was still above ground and trackable. Despite a few hard freezes in November, that last lizard was still up and moving as late as last week.

The burrows made by the rabbit-eared bilby serve as ‘outback oases’ for birds, reptiles and more.

I find it terrific that these guys play such a crucial role in our native habitat for other species. But what worries me is that those that rely on a bilby for habitat function are relying on a species that is being increasingly endangered in Australia and one must wonder what ramifications this has for many others such as the dwarf Bearded Dragon .

Titanoboa

Titanoboa is an extinct genus of snakes that is known to have lived in present-day La Guajira in northern Colombia. The giant snake lived during the Middle to Late Paleocene epoch, a 10-million-year period immediately following the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event.

The only known species is Titanoboa cerrejonensis, the largest snake ever discovered. By comparing the sizes and shapes of its fossilized vertebrae to those of extant snakes, researchers estimated that the largest individuals of T. cerrejonensis found had a total length around 42 feet and weighed about 2,500 pounds.

While initially thought to have been an apex predator of the Paleocene ecosystem in which it lived, evidence has pointed to the genus being predominantly piscivorous. Titanoboa’s massive size would have made it difficult to move on land, so the giant snake would probably have spent most of its life in the water, hunting for fish and other aquatic prey.
