Course Restrictions
The majority of courses (at least 60%) must be taken within the TUM department where students are registered. However, please note that courses and modules from other faculties and schools will require commuting to other campuses. Organization of transportation are up to the student. When planning your semester at TUM Campus Straubing you should select courses with a minimum of 20 ECTS credits (for reference: a normal semester workload is 30 ECTS credits). Some courses are only held in German – not in English – and it is very important for students to confirm the language of instruction for the courses they intend enrol in! In addition, the fact that a course description is written in English does not necessarily mean that the course is also taught in English! The language of instruction can be found within the course description.

When you apply for exchange at TUM, please state the correct department/school you are taking courses at in the application. The department/school must correspond to the agreement you are applying for. E.g., when applying for TUM – Campus Straubing for Biotechnology and Sustainability, an example of what to write when stating your courses could be: "Advances in Synthetic Biology - Campus Straubing for Biotechnology and Sustainability".

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) is one of Europe’s top universities. It is committed to excellence in research and teaching, interdisciplinary education and the active promotion of promising young scientists. The university also forges strong links with companies and scientific institutions across the world. TUM was one of the first universities in Germany to be named a University of Excellence. TUM Campus Straubing: the young University town located in Lower Bavaria covers 68 km2 and is home to almost 48,000 inhabitants. It is the pulsating heart of the fertile Gäuboden region with 8,000 years of history, where tradition, modernity and innovation are successfully combined. Straubing is connected to Europe via its good road links, the railway station, the Straubing-Wallmühle airfield and the Straubing-Sand port. A wide range of leisure activities, made all the more favourable by the location on the Danube and the immediate proximity of the Bavarian Forest, creates a wonderful balance to your studies.

Academic Strengths
TUM Campus Straubing focuses on the field of biotechnology and sustainability. Together with the adjoined KoNaRo – Center of Excellence for Renewable Resources, Fraunhofer Institute and C.A.R.M.E.N. e.V. as well as the Green Fuel Center, the SynBiofoundry@TUM and the Global Bioechonomy Alliance it facilitates the transition from a petroleum based to a sustainable, biotechnology based world. IRCs are characterized by cutting edge research in new fields, which of course also influences our teaching. Students have direct access to the latest findings in their field of studies and are immersed in an interdisciplinary and international setting right from the beginning of their studies.

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) has 11 departments and schools built on two key success factors – disciplinary excellence and interdisciplinary networking. Our high placing in national and international university rankings underpins our claim to excellence.
