This 1971 Fiat 850 Sport Coupe is driven regularly by the seller who has owned it for 10 years. It is campaigned frequently on vintage events including several California Melees, and the seller says it always performs reliably and adds that excellent handling makes up for its modest straight-line speed. Mechanicals remain largely stock apart from a few worthwhile reliability upgrades including pointless electronic ignition and a back-up electric fuel pump. Cromodora Daytona wheels give the car a great look and it has recently received a new battery, rear motor mount and new exhaust.
The car previously belonged to a mechanic at Los Angeles-based Italian specialist shop Alfa Romance. Bodywork and paint are driver quality, the seller adding that an older respray covered door jambs but left the engine bay in its original, darker green.
Rust is present with bubbling on the right rocker behind the front wheel, bubbling on the front door jamb uprights and two small holes on the bottom edge of the driver’s door. Some slight waviness is visible low down on the driver’s door as well. All these issues were present when purchased by the seller in 2005, and he notes that they have not changed. He does a good job photographing all these ares in detail below.
Wheels are genuine 14″ Cromodora Daytonas and side mirrors are Alfa Romeo units. Wipers and all exterior lights work.
The interior features correctly reupholstered seats as well as a custom center console unit built by the previous owner. Carpets show some tan wearing through and are thought to have been sprayed black at some point in the past. The dash, headliner and door cards are all in good condition, and all instruments, accessories, lights and controls work with the exception of the horn.
The engine remains all stock apart from a pointless electronic ignition. An electric fuel pump has been fitted to back-up the original mechanical item as well. The seller has logged several thousand miles behind the wheel and the car has required only routine maintenance. Note the original, darker green paint remnants in the shot above.
The previously fitted rear side exit exhaust has been swapped for a straight exit pipe, at which time the seller discovered some cracking on the header which has since been repaired. Several underbody shots viewable below detail the condition well.
The seller says it starts and runs very well, adding that handling is excellent and that the gearbox, suspension and brakes are all in good working order. The sale includes original manuals, brochures, a factory workshop manual and a Haynes repair book.
