This 1985 ZiL 41045 is powered by a 7.7-liter V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission that drives the rear wheels, and it is finished in black over black leather and gray cloth upholstery. The car is believed to have been part of Mikhail Gorbachev’s fleet and was registered to the automotive department of the President of the Russian Federation as recently as 2001. Featured equipment includes tinted triple-laminated windows, 16″ wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, air conditioning, front bucket seats, an adjustable rear bench, rear jump seats, a loudspeaker, a siren, flashing emergency lights, front and rear telephones, rear audio and climate controls, a Radiotehnika stereo, and a Vilma cassette player. The car was acquired by the current owner in 2014 and the brake system was overhauled in 2022. This ZiL-41045 is offered on dealer consignment at no reserve with a model of the car, an owner’s manual, Concours awards, spare parts, Russian license plates, and a clean New Jersey title.
Zavod imeni Likhachyova (ZiL) produced limousines for Soviet government officials, and the 41045 model was a revised version of the 4104 that was produced from 1983-1985. This example is finished in black and exterior details are comprised of a ZiL hood ornament, headlight wipers, chrome bumpers and lower body trim, body-color wheel arches, a laminated windshield, tinted triple-laminated windows, ZiL-logo rear mudguards, and dual exhaust outlets. An interior emergency switch activates a siren and flashing of the headlights, taillights, and red lights mounted behind the grille.
Polished 16″ wheels are mounted with older 245/70 Michelin 4×4 Synchrone tires, and a studded Granit spare is stored in the trunk. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with two calipers per disc, and the braking system was overhauled in 2022.
Front bucket seats are trimmed in black leather while mottled wool carpeting lines the floor and birch wood veneers accent the cabin. A center armrest, air conditioning, an analog clock, a phone mounted in the center console, a loudspeaker and siren system, a Radiotehnika stereo, and a Vilma cassette player were standard equipment.
A power-adjustable glass partition separates the front of the vehicle from the rear passenger area, which houses two folding jump seats and an electrically adjustable rear bench trimmed in gray mohair cloth. Rear cabin amenities include window curtains, radio controls, a phone, an analog clock, and temperature controls.
A two-spoke steering wheel is mounted on an adjustable column and fronts instrumentation consisting of a 200-km/h speedometer, a tachometer, an ammeter, and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 53k kilometers (~33k miles), 500 of which were added under current ownership.
The 7.7-liter carbureted V8 was factory rated at approximately 300 horsepower and is equipped with redundant systems including dual ignitions, batteries, and fuel pumps.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission. A tune-up and transmission service were completed in 2020, according to the seller.
A Russian vehicle registration dated 2001 shows the car in possession of the automotive department of the President of the Russian Federation.
An owner’s manual, Greenwich Concours d’Elegance awards, a Russian parts catalog and manufacturer’s literature, a DeAgostini scale model car and accompanying literature, Russian license plates, and spare parts are included in the sale.
The New Jersey title lists the car’s VIN, ZIL16585, as a combination of the make, chassis number, and model year.
