Summary[edit]

Description

c/n 41H/81899 Built May 1937 for export directly to Afghanistan with no British military service. Eight Hinds were delivered directly from Hawkers, with a further 20 ex-RAF aircraft joining them in 1939. The final Hinds were believed to have remained in service until as late as 1956. In 1967 the Afghan Government donated one of the surviving Hinds to the RAF Museum. It was refurbished by the Afghan Air Force and delivered to the UK by RAF Hercules in early 1968. Officially handed over on 10th June 1968, it went on display at Hendon in 1972 and remained there until 2001 when it was moved to Cosford. Still wearing genuine Afghan markings, she is seen on display in the ‘War in the Air’ hangar, although she has since gone into storage and is not currently on display (as of 2018). RAF Museum, Cosford, Shropshire, UK.
