Berberis Thunbergii Bagatelle, commonly known as Japanese Barberry is a compact, bushy deciduous shrub of rounded habit, with purple/red wine coloured leaves, which become a shade brighter in autumn. A great plant which contrasts with light coloured foliage well when planted together.
The Berberis Thunbergii Bagatelle in March and April produces straw like yellow small flowers followed closely by these bright, glossy red berries in autumn. Often planted as a specimen plant the Berberis looks great in most gardens, we recommend planting on banks or slopes, flower beds, flower borders and mostly any garden!
Berberis Thunbergii Bagatelle care
Plant the Berberis Thunbergii Bagatelle in a sunny, partially shaded location where its growth improves and thrives. Ideally planted in a moist, well drained location, although can normally survive in any soil as long as its not waterlogged.
Generally disease and pest free the Berberis is a great low maintenance addition to any garden, requiring minimal pruning. We recommend a light pruning once a year in autumn or after flowering to simply encourage a natural growth and maintain its compact shape, for added extra apply good quality fertiliser in spring time to further improve the Berberis Thunbergii Bagatelle health and yield.
