INSTALLATION

Warning: Make sure to make a backup of each folder before overwriting! I have created a "Backup" folder for this purpose.

Unzip the file and you should see 4 folders inside ("Backups", "clouds", "Scripts", "skycolors") as well as the Changelog and README.

_____

Step 1: Clouds

Move the "clouds" folder to "X-Plane 11/Resources/bitmaps/world/" and overwrite.

_____

Step 2: Skycolors

Move the "skycolors" folder to "X-Plane 11/Resources/bitmaps/" and overwrite.

_____

Step 3: FlyWithLua

Download FlyWithLua here:

Unzip the folder and move it to "X-Plane 11/Resources/plugins/" and make sure to delete "please read the manual.lua" in "FlyWithLua/Scripts/".

Move "Y_Clouds_4/Scripts/Y_Clouds_4.luato "X-Plane 11/Resources/plugins/FlyWithLua/Scripts/".

If you have installed the vivid_sky script already, make sure to overwrite the old one with my new script.

_____

Optional

Move "Y_Clouds_V3/Scripts/Water preset by Allan RIVIERE version 1.3.lua" to "X-Plane 11/Resources/plugins/FlyWithLua/Scripts/" if you want better water.

Move "Y_Clouds_V3/Scripts/WhiteoutInClouds_v1.1f.lua" to "X-Plane 11/Resources/plugins/FlyWithLua/Scripts/" if you don't want a "whiteout" effect while passing through clouds.

Check that you do not have conflicting scripts!

_______________

And you're done! Run X-Plane 11, pick an aircraft and location of your choice, enjoy!

You can help me improve this project, supporting me and give me suggestions in the official Y Clouds discussion & support thread:

IF YOU HAVE AN ISSUE CONCERNING THE ADDON, PLEASE ALWAYS REFER TO THE DISCUSSION THREAD FIRST!

Do not hesitate to include some screenshots if you can! Therefore I can see what the enhancement looks like on your screens.

This is great, but if I am in stormy weather, cloud cover is minimal, but when I go in the clouds, the display indicates that we are in the clouds when no clouds are actually being displayed outside of the storm cell. Please help

Response from the author:

Hi @Kai Y

A new version will be coming very soon, and cloud coverage will be improved. What I'm a little bit worried about is the FPS hit for certain users...

Could you please tell me more precisely about your issue in the discussion thread? Or you are welcome to join the official discord server: https://discord.gg/KTAVNr59dN

Great great addon, the skycolor looks amazing even in VR. No more "washed away sky". And the clouds looks really fine too even with the billboard limitation of the X-system.

Downloaded this today because I reinstalled XP 11 for some non-XP12-aircraft (Ini A310, Rotate MD-80) and wanted better looking clouds. Incredible work, and next to 0 impact on framerate! Very well done.

What a beautiful work! This looks so amazing on my latest version XP11 on Mac. Also, very helpful scripts you put into the folder. I found these clouds the best so far here in the forum. Breathtaking.

Thanks Pilot Y for this excellent effort getting it to v3. Results are outstanding and your support with isolating my issue with FTU much appreciated.

For everybody's info FlyAgi FTU will conflict with the Y Cloud lua scripts, so disable FTU and all will be fine.

100% a huge improvement over the default clouds, lol. I've tried other clouds and I think you have one of the best clouds for X-Plane. Excellent job!

Nice work, I have no doubt, but as for the result - sorry: I found the clouds and sky colours a bit too 'day glow' (well, it does say 'vivid' I suppose!). Didn't look natural to me: but that is only my opinion of course, other people like it, as you can see. Each to his own 😊

Response from the author:

Hi @martinlest,

I agree with what you said: Each to his own. But please try the Blue clouds script if you think that the clouds are too "day glow". I included two options for this exact purpose so that people can choose according to their opinions! I hope this helps.

Really nice cloud mod, pretty realistic illumination and no problems with fps.

The blue clouds file was working excellent for me. The white clouds file was not working for me (actually created black/white clouds) but I presume that is an issue on my side.

Sometimes it seems that sunlight creates reflection through overcast clouds which is a bit odd but tbh even then it's a 100% improvement over default.

EDIT: The white clouds were fixed by a recent update.

Response from the author:

Thank you @BurningBridges for the nice words!

Concerning the black-white clouds issue, please always refer to the discussion thread first!

A few users have already informed me the issue and I will very soon post a hot-fix update fixing this.

Tried them all. Cloud textures, skycolor bitmaps, some are good, some are really bad.

After a lot of time experimenting, I must conclude that Y Clouds 4 is the best of them all. Most realistic, wonderful addicting eye-candy.

My compliments to the creators of this package, you have really made something wonderful. 10 stars out of 5.

This is beyond my expectations! The transition of sky colors is on a next level. Night sky looks amazing. 100% better than default sky textures. No FPS drops at all!

Only downside is the actual cloud textures while passing through them. Especially when the weather turns into Scattered clouds only. While passing through these clouds, they seem to move away in an unnatural way. However this is not noticed when there is fog around or low visibility. Hence, the 4 stars

Overall, I'm enjoying this new addition. :) Thanks so much for the wonderful script!

Response from the author:

Hi

In order to fix your issue concerning the clouds turning while passing through them, you can remove the WhiteoutInClouds_v1.1f.lua script from your folder in Flywithlua.

Thank you for the kind review,

Pilot Y

Brilliant Clouds! No impact on Fps at all. I'm using X-Visibility Lua script and my flights during Daytime and Sunsets as well as sunrise are on a whole new level.

Many Thanks. Really Appreciate your work.

Very beautiful. Everything works and sky colours are so much better..
Awesome!

However, the cloud layers don't look like on the showcase and the clouds are weird when going inside them. (move around and are 2d)

Response from the author:

Hi @GeorgiAirlines

Thanks for the review. Concerning the cloud layers, you have very probably selected the stormy option in the flight configuration menu. In order to get the clouds in the showcase, you have to select two cloud layers in the weather selector. Also, the clouds are 2D and this is X-Plane's only (well, not exactly now) option. You can remove the "No whiteout in clouds script in order to not get the clouds to move when you're going through them. You may bring this conversation to the discussion thread if you wish.

Lovely! For a person who don't have a computer powerful enough to handle XEnviro or Enhanced Skyscapes, this is just perfect! It doesn't flicker often too!

Hi
`Thank you for this fantastic cloud program. I had been waiting for him for a long time, because only good clouds were missing in x-plane. Keep developing this topic because it has a future. I sincerely congratulate you and greet you

Pilot Y, thank you very much indeed for this excellent cloud improvement (have tried them all).  I fly only in XP11.55 Vulkan/WMR-VR and use your 'blue clouds and the experimental script. I have learned to be very careful and selective with addons as many cause 'Device loss - out of memory problems', but your scripts are a successful visual enhancement.

Again, many thanks.

Cheers
