History of Seborga

I have been saving this ask till Seborga’s birthday… I was surprised that someone actually brought up his history, because I had to figure out how to incorporate it into his character when I learned of it. So rather than having everyone’s reactions, because there is much more to this than just his age, I am choosing to tell his history to the best of my ability.

What? Is Seborga really that old?

This is interesting…although Seborga’s history dates back to Middle Ages, Seborga didn’t claim sovereignty until 1963, when the Seborgan people voted for independence. This was justified by local Giorgio Carbone (who would later become the head of state) in the fact that Seborga was never really distributed after the Napoleonic Wars and later the Unification of Italy. Unfortunately, the Italian government doesn’t seem to take him very seriously…and doesn’t recognize his independence either.

How does this fit into the Hetalia universe?

Although I’m not exactly sure how it would affect his age, I’d like to assume that before 1963, he was physically a small child. Holy Roman Empire ruled over him and some point and later on, Seborga definitely met Knights Templar (as the first of the knights were ordained in Seborga).

After his “revival” in 1963 was probably when he had his growth spurt, although why he is taller than Italy and Romano still remains a mystery. He still hopes that Italy will recognize him someday (let’s hope with him).
