Potsdam Culture Festival

Be our guest at the first cultural festival in the heart of Potsdam on Sunday, 10 September 2023, and experience a diverse and free programme at over 20 venues. Enjoy workshops, readings and lectures, a bicycle tours through Potsdam and yoga on the Old Market Square as well as exhibitions and guided tours for young and old visitors. All participating museums offer free admission on this day.

Another highlight is a cultural picnic on the Old Market Square from 12 to 4 pm. Locals and guests can sit down together at a long table, enjoy live music, and have good conversations with old and new acquaintances. Tablecloths, seat cushions, flowers – everything needed for a joyous table – can be brought along, as well as your own food and drinks. But also the local caterers – the Café Central in the Old Town Hall and the Café in the Museum Barberini – will be offering delicacies and drinks.

The organisers of the cultural festival are the cultural institutions of central Potsdam in cooperation with the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg with support from the state capital Potsdam. The date of the first cultural festival of this kind was deliberately chosen. The AWO Bezirksverband Potsdam e.V. has been offering free admission to cultural events throughout Potsdam on the 2nd Sunday in September for several years with its “Kultur für JEDE*N” (Culture for everyone!), which oversees numerous events during the festival. The 2nd Sunday in September is also traditionally “Tag des offenen Denkmals” (Day of Open Monument), which nationwide celebrates its 30th birthday this year. In alignment with the “Holland in Potsdam” campaign, numerous offerings are also dedicated to Dutch influences on architecture and art in Brandenburg’s state capital.

“We are looking forward to the culture festival and hope that this new format will be well received” emphasise Christiana Arnold from the marketing department of the city and Dorothee Entrup from the Museum Barberini. “The Culture Festival was only made possible by the many institutions that are taking part and contributing their ideas. It’s great to see what a diverse programme has been put together.”
