A very insightful post about burnout. I would have never imagined that the first stage of burnout would be “you feel a strong need to prove yourself” - this seems such a “normal” experience for most of us in demanding jobs. Thank you Debra Kurtz for bringing this to light.
⬆️ Rates of Depression and Anxiety have risen by 30% since the start of the pandemic. One of the issues we are hearing much more about at work - and home as there are ripple effects - is Burnout. It occurs from a number of factors including overwork, toxicity, stress, and poor management. A toxic organizational culture contributes to the substantiated responses to sustained trauma and stress. The longer it lasts, the greater number of somatic, psychological, and behavioral issues that emerge even if we try to deny it as stress or a lack of positivity. There are real concerns for health and wellbeing. 💡 May is Mental Health month and I hope to share posts to shine a light on all who deserve support and a reduction of stigma associated with it. 🔥 𝘞𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘥𝘦: 𝘙𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘍𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘨𝘶𝘦, 𝘦𝘹𝘩𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘯𝘪𝘢 𝘗𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘤 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘴 𝘍𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘍𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘳 𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘦𝘯𝘫𝘰𝘺𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘋𝘦𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘚𝘶𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘭 𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝗣𝘀𝘆𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗿 & 𝗚𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟭𝟵𝟳𝟬'𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝟭𝟮 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. Like any spectrum, stages may not be linear, may be combined, or skipped. In our desire to avoid the issue or hide the symptoms, it may progress to dangerous levels for employees of all ages. ❤️🩹 Please share these with someone you love - including yourself. 🙏🏻 Thank you to @thepresentpsychologist for the wonderful #infographic. Henna Inam Thank you for sharing this post to help others become more aware. In response to your comment, there may be some individuals that are more sensitive or could be more susceptible in high stress, highly competitive, and less inclusive environments. All of these could certainly create stressors. Perhaps you can think of other examples.
