This superb example of the Fiat 508 Balilla Spider, a very rare edition equipped with a 4-speed gearbox and with a developed power of 38 hp, is the winner of the Sinaia (Romania) 2023 Elegance Contest. This example was appreciated by the jury as the car winner in a very tight competition with special models of the German, Mercedes and Bmw brands.

Model history:

The 508 Balilla was a compact car designed and developed by Fiat in 1932. It was, effectively, the replacement of the Fiat 509, although production of the earlier model had ceased back in 1929.

The 508 "Spider" was a small 2-door 2-seater cabriolet bodied car. The driver and passenger sat side by side, but the driver's seat was fixed a few centimetres further back than the passenger seat. On the Spider the seat coverings were made from leather. The car was available in both standard and "Lusso" ("de Luxe") versions. The windscreen could be folded down and the removable fabric hood could be stored in a suitably shaped storage bag provided for the purpose. The early "Spider" came with the same three-speed "no-synchromesh" gear-box as the "Berlina". However, it benefited mechanically from the 1934 upgrade, switching to a four-speed transmission. In the case of the "Spider", however, the 1934 upgrade was not accompanied by any change to the body shape.

Exterior Color/Paint/Body:

The combination of colors between blue and black, together with the two red lines on the body, makes this copy very rare and special. These colors highlight the superb bodywork of those from Fiat in 1933. The bodywork and paintwork are in excellent condition, more precisely a competition condition, this aspect being also appreciated by the severe jury that awarded that award.

The convertible soft top of this car is in impeccable condition and the wooden elements that perfectly complement the shape of the body are also in excellent condition.

Interior:

The interior of the car is also in a very good condition, keeping the patina of wear on certain interior elements. When you're inside such a car, it's like traveling back in time, the feeling that we're going back in time 90 years.

Engine:

The engine is completely overhauled, before participating in the contest, changing all gaskets and fluids. you can also see in the photos its excellent condition.

All engine elements were checked and reconditioned according to competition standards, preserving the originality of the car. The engine elements that required intervention were also in colors that respect the originality of those times.

Gearbox:

The gearbox is completely overhauled, all fluids and gaskets changed, it works perfectly. It is a 4-speed gearbox, which provides extra power to this engine. This box was used on the following Fiat 508 Balilla model, only a few cars from the old series benefited from this box making this car very rare.
