Klein Family Field

The construction of Klein Family Field provided Pacific baseball with its first home on campus since moving the university to its Stockton location. Opened on April 18, 2006 for the Tiger 8-3 win over Nevada, Klein Family Field plays host to all Pacific home games, local tournaments, camps, and high school play-offs. The field was made possible through a generous donation of the Klein family.

Family patriarch Sol Klein came to Stockton in 1917 and soon became known as the father of youth baseball. He established a 16-team grammar school league, donating uniforms and equipment to poor children; helped found Little League Baseball in Stockton, and was one of the founders and the first president of the Stockton Baseball Club, now the Stockton Ports. His son, Bud Klein, played baseball for the Pacific Tigers and then the Stanford Cardinal before he was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 1950. While Bud did not pursue a major league baseball career, he has brought the University great honor by entrusting to it the education of numerous family members.

Bob Corkern, a spokesman for the Klein family, said the gift to Pacific's baseball program was prompted as much by their enthusiasm for the University as it was their love of the game. Summer camps and youth leagues use the facilities when not used by the university, and the ability to host college tournaments and playoffs brings economic benefits to local business.

During the fall of 2007, the Tigers continued to renovate Klein Family Field with the addition of new batting cages and stadium lights. Construction continued in 2009 with the building of luxury suites in the upper concourse, providing heating/air with indoor seating. In the fall of 2010, both home and visitor bullpens were renovated to include all-weather turf. In 2012, full restrooms as well as concession stands were added on the concourse on both the first and third base field lines.

A covered training facility (primarily used for hitting) was finished in 2015 and is located just down the right field line past the Raney Sand Volleyball Courts.

TOM STUBBS CLUBHOUSE:
Pacific baseball unveiled a newly remodeled locker room in October of 2018 in honor of longtime coach Tom Stubbs, who managed the program from 1964 to 71 and again from 1973 to 81. Stubbs’ 410 wins stands as the program record for coaching wins.

The remodel was made possible by a generous gift the Tigers received from the 1968 team, which went 32-15 and holds the record for best winning percentage in program history. The support received from the group allowed Pacific to install graphics above the lockers as well as an area to commemorate the 1968 team’s successes. There is also a new section dedicated to Pacific’s 88 players that have gone on to play professionally. The clubhouse and entrance way is dedicated to Stubbs himself clubhouse in honor of the coach.

“I love what they’ve done with the pictures of the team and that sort of thing. It’s truly amazing. I didn’t expect this at all,” Stubbs said. “This is very humbling to think of.”

The Tigers also gave out a new award, the Tom Stubbs Leadership Award, which will be given to a Pacific player that demonstrates the same type of leadership traits as Stubbs. Former Tiger Lucas Halsted, who hit .278 with four homers and 23 RBIs in 2018, was the first Tiger to earn the honor.

“Tom recruited me and I chose to come to Pacific and play baseball, and it had a huge effect on my life,” Jeff Friestedt, a member of the 1968 team, said. “This was the best of the four teams I played on. We were also the closest group of players. After we graduated we all went on to be hugely successful. Coach Stubbs put together a group of people that liked to play together and he encouraged us. We suffered through some difficult times early on and in the second half of the season, we won a lot of games. I’m impressed with what they’ve done with the clubhouse. It will help build a more successful program here at Pacific.”
