Kim Kardashian now claims Jay Leno inspired North West’s name

There appear to be various origins of North West‘s name.

In a video posted to Kylie Jenner’s YouTube channel, Kim Kardashian explained that she landed on her firstborn’s name after appearing on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” in 2013.

“I actually got it from Jay Leno, who made that as a joke,” Kim, 39, said, admitting it took “four or five” days to decide to make the moniker stick.

“Everyone was coming up to me like, ‘It’s such a cool name. You should really think about it,’” she recalled to Kylie.

During the 2013 interview, Leno asked the then-pregnant reality star if the rumors about her naming her unborn daughter “North” were true. Kim flat-out denied them.

“There are so many rumors. That is not true,” she said. “That is not one of the names on the list.”

Initially, the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star never thought the name North could work for her now 6-year-old daughter, but she was finally convinced after a talk with pal Pharrell Williams.

“They really become the name you name them,” she said of North’s name fitting her personality perfectly.

That same year, Kim’s mother, Kris Jenner, appeared on “The View” and defended Kim and husband Kanye West’s unique name choice for their daughter.

“I love the name North. I’m pro-North!” she said. “The way [Kim] explained it to me, north means highest power, and North is their highest point together.”
