The Smith’s Green-eyed Gecko (Gekko smithii) also known as the Large Forest Gecko, is a species of gecko found in Asia. It is one of the biggest species of geckos, reaching 35cm (over 1ft) or more. The Smith’s Green-eyed Gecko named after Andrew Smith (1797-1872), a Scottish zoologist and founder of the South African Museum.
This species is found in southern Thailand, Singapore, western Malaysia, Burma, India (Nicobar Islands), and Indonesia (Borneo, Sumatra, Pulau Nias, Java). It is arboreal and nocturnal, with it’s call reminiscent of a dog’s bark. This species diet comprises insects such as grasshoppers.
