This popular cultivar is distinguished from straight Viburnum burkwoodii in four ways: It is more compact in size, growing up to 8' tall and 6' wide. The dark red flower buds are ornamental before bloom. It has stronger and spicier flower fragrance. And it has much better orange-red fall color. It's one of our favorite viburnums because of these fine attributes, along with glossy, dark green foliage and red berries. It handles full sun to quite a bit of shade. Plus it's hardy to Zone 4.
