Planting Tips:

  • Choose a location with well-draining soil and ample sunlight for optimal growth and blooming.
  • Dig a hole twice the width of the plant's root ball and ensure the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface when planting.
  • Space multiple Luna Hibiscus Red PP# 16155 plants approximately 2 to 3 feet apart to allow for proper air circulation and growth.

Watering:

  • Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, especially during the plant's active growth period.
  • Water deeply and thoroughly, ensuring the water reaches the plant's root zone.
  • Avoid overhead watering to prevent fungal diseases, instead, use a soaker hose or drip irrigation system.
  • Use our Moisture Maxx non-ionic wetting agent in periods of drought. Free with any order over $99.

Mulching:

  • Apply a layer of organic mulch, such as bark chips or shredded leaves, around the base of the plant to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.
  • Maintain a mulch layer approximately 2 to 3 inches thick, being careful not to pile mulch against the plant's stem, which can lead to rot.

Pruning:

  • Prune Luna Hibiscus Red PP# 16155 in late winter or early spring to remove dead or damaged branches and encourage new growth.
  • Use sharp, clean pruning shears to make clean cuts just above a leaf node or bud.
  • Shape the plant as desired to maintain its compact and tidy appearance, but avoid excessive pruning, which can reduce flowering.

Fertilizing Guidelines:

  • Feed Luna Hibiscus Red PP# 16155 with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer formulated for flowering shrubs in early spring, use what we use, HI-COTE 360 day fertilizer following our simple instructions.
  • Alternatively, use a water-soluble fertilizer Like Dr. Joe's diluted to half strength every 4 to 6 weeks during the growing season to promote lush foliage and abundant blooms.
  • Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can lead to excessive vegetative growth at the expense of flowering.
