From here, we leave the Family Beds borders and step into the Rock Garden (bypassing the superb Salvia Borders are there is still a long way to go before they look at their best – October at least)

First, this extravagant show of seedheads which at first I took for Pulsatilla…

Which leads us back into the outer borders of the Woodland gardens (beneath the Mount and Temple of Aeolus) and to the Lake (in front of the Palm House) and out (past the ducks…)

An hour well spent, methinks, with some unusual plants that deserve further investigation I think now…
