Thierry de Maigret: sale of antique frames in Paris, 9 February 2024

This auction will be held by Thierry de Maigret at the Hôtel Drouot at 1.30 p.m. local time on Friday 9 February. It includes a variety of frames, mainly French – some fine examples, priced correspondingly, and some more reasonable, workaday frames and multiple lots; there are a large number of polished wood frames. Lot 11: a pair of Japanese lacquered wood frames; architrave profile with shallow cushion frieze, decorated with blossoming branches and birds in gold on a black ground; 19th or 20th century; 43.5 x 59 cm.; estimate: €600-800

Lot 86: carved giltwood Louis XIII cushion frame, with corners and centres decorated with incised scrolling foliage between shaped mirrored panels, and a central cavetto repainted blue and bordered with incised geometric ornament; 17th century; 85 x 60 cm.; estimate: €400-600

Lot 90: carved giltwood Louis XIV frame; convex profile, with projecting C-scrolling foliate corners with leaf buds, and centres with shells, both on a diapered ground, joined by scrolled strapwork with leaf buds and florets, infilled with diapering, against a cross-hatched ground on the convex top edge; sanded frieze; acanthus-&-flower on a hatched ground at the sight edge; late 17th century; 67.5 x 54 cm.; estimate: €500-800
