Doha, Qatar: After months of calm, Italy's most active volcano Mount Etna erupted on the evening of Sunday, November 12, 2023.
Videos shared on social media showed massive plumes of bright-red lava explosions, spewing from the mouth of the volcano.
Media reports quoted Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) as saying that the “height of the eruptive column is estimated to be about 4500 m (14,763 feet) above sea level”. The location of the tremor rapidly shifted beneath the Southeast crater, added reports.

However, the nearby Catania airport remained open despite the volcanic activity.
Etna is one of the volcanoes with the longest historic records of eruptions, going back more than 2,000 years.
This comes at a time when the Icelandic town Grindavik, near the capital Reykjavik, is preparing for a volcanic eruption. The town was evacuated after magma shifting under the Earth's crusts caused hundreds of earthquakes, believed to be a precursor to an eruption.
