Description

Phyllostachys-aureosulcata-'Spectabilis'-Green-Sulcus-BambooBuy Phyllostachys aureosulcata ‘Spectabilis’ or Green Sulcus Bamboo. Phyllostachys in general are attractive, tall, clump-forming, evergreen bamboos with canes (culms) grooved on alternate sides between the nodes, and usually with two leafy branches at each node. Phyllostachys aureosulcata f. spectabilis is a large, clump-forming bamboo with stout yellow canes up to 6m tall, which are striped green in the grooves, with narrowly lance-shaped leaves up to 15cm long.

It is a very easy bamboo that will grow in full sun to a dappled shade position but dislike very windy, exposed situations. It prefers to be moist during the growing season but will take drought for short periods. If you want big bamboos, feeding with a high nitrogen fertilizer in the spring will bring on rampant growth.

It is very useful for screening, soon providing an almost impenetrable thicket with time.

Like all bamboos, it can be grown in a very large container though it must be fed regularly to keep it in good health.
