Mammals of Ulu Ulu Squirrels of Ulu Ulu 03: Giant Squirrel Date: April 30, 2017Author: uluulublog 0 Comments The Giant Squirrel Ratufa affinis is Borneo’s largest tree squirrel. Giant Squirrels prefer tall virgin forest and are rarely found in secondary or logged forest. Giant Squirrels are very variable in colour both as individuals in the same area and between different areas of Borneo. In the illustration above the top squirrel is typical of the the Giant Squirrels found at Sepilok in Sabah whilst the lower individual is typical of Danum Valley also in Sabah. South of the Sabah Border the typical color of the Giant Squirrel changes again. The upper squirrel is a “pale morph” found throughout Borneo whilst the lower squirrel is typical of Brunei.
