Taxodium distichum (Bald Cypress) is a large, long-lived, deciduous conifer that grows to 50-75 ft. or taller. Bald cypress produces sage-green leaves that resemble feathers, turning copper-colored before falling; although it resembles an evergreen conifer, it becomes 'bald' during the colder winter months.
Taxodium distichum is easily grown in average, medium to wet, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade and prefers acidic, sandy soils but can tolerate a very wide range of soil conditions, from somewhat dry, poor soils to fully flooded areas with loamy sand. Extremely tolerant of a variety of conditions, bald cypresses can also reach advanced age, and are actually one of the longest lived trees in the world.
