Thuja occidentalis 'Emerald Green' is a cultivar of arborvitae that is perfectly suited for use in the home garden due to its deep green, evergreen foliage and its medium height of 10-15'. A moderate spread of three to four feet plus its moderate height makes these Thuja the perfect choice for hedge and border screen plantings, but dense foliage also makes 'Emerald Green' an excellent specimen tree, either manicured in its natural, narrow pyramidal shape, or as topiary.

'Emerald Green' Thuja prefers full sun, and average soil type and moisture, but can tolerate some shade, as well as heat, cold, and some drought once established. Although it does not flower, Thuja occidentalis 'Emerald Green' attracts small birds and wildlife by offering cover and shelter; Thuja also acts as a host plant for bagworm moths.

Marylanders Plant Trees

From the Maryland Department of Natural Resources:

"We launched Marylanders Plant Trees in 2009 to encourage citizens and organizations to partner with the State to plant new trees. Today, citizens can still take advantage of our coupon program to receive $25 off the purchase of a native tree at 86 participating nurseries across the State. The State cost of $20 per coupon is funded through a settlement from a major power generator for Clean Air Act violations, in partnership with the Office of the Attorney General, and Maryland’s participating tree vendors are generously absorbing the remaining $5.

Trees must be planted in the state of Maryland to qualify for $25 off coupon.
Wholesale customers do not qualify.
