CONTAINER GROWN TREES, SHRUBS, BERRIES

At Arbor Hill Tree Farm in Eden, Vermont, we have thousands of container-grown trees and shrubs available. Typically, in 3,5,7, or 10 gal. nursery pots. Started at the tree farm from seed, small transplants or cuttings, and grown outdoors in nursery containers, these trees and shrubs are very hearty, fully established and conditioned to the Vermont climate. With good soil and full sun, most varieties will typically add 1 to 3 feet in height each year.

These fully established container grown trees can be planted any time during spring, summer or fall, without any transplant shock and no interruption to the growth rate. Anyone can plant these with 100% success, easy to transport in the back of an SUV or in a pick-up, the perfect size for planting yourself. Well established with a substantial root ball grown in a nursery pot full of rich, dark, loamy, potting soil, these container-grown trees require very little maintenance, once planted.

Very popular with homeowners as well as contractors and commercial business owners because these are so easy to plant and nearly impossible to get it wrong. Just dig a hole the size of the root ball. Slide the root ball out of the container and into the hole. Renting a power earth auger is a quick and easy way to make the holes, and all but eliminates any hand digging. Makes installing even a long hedge or privacy screen very quick, easy and inexpensive. Also, these container trees can stay in the containers for an extended period of time. No pressure to get them all planted as quickly as possible, just keep them watered once a week and plant them when you have time. Great if you're installing a long hedge or privacy screen yourself and want to spread the work out across several weekends or more.

2' container $25.00 each (sold out)
3' container $30.00 each (sold out)
4' container $35.00 each (sold out)

We have early, mid, and late season varieties, so you'll have fresh berries all summer, and all our plants are northern cold hardy varieties. Very low maintenance and very easy to plant.
Blueberry bushes make excellent eatable landscapes and can be planted in a tight row to form a hedge along a driveway or patio/pool area. They can also be planted individually as accents in various locations throughout the yard.
Their leaves will turn a beautiful vibrant red wine color in the fall.
Blueberry bushes can often live a long time before losing any productivity, most up to 30 years or more with proper pruning.

Duke
An early-season variety and is extremely popular. It is high-yielding and hardy. The attractive fruit is medium to large, light blue, and delicious. Berries maintain their uniform quality better than most other varieties. Duke grows upright to a height of 4–6 feet, berries are easy to pick.

Blueray
A midseason blueberry variety that ripens around mid-July. The large, dark-blue berries are sweet with high-quality flavor and are easy to pick. The bush is vigorous, productive, and winter hardy. It grows to a height of 4–6 feet.

Jersey
A late-season variety that is easy to grow, high-yielding, and one of the oldest and most widely grown blueberry varieties. The berries are dark blue, medium in size, and very sweet. A tall and well-shaped bush, it has excellent ornamental value.

Nelson
A mid-season variety, 5-6 feet tall at maturity, ripens around July 25, averaging 12-15 pounds per plant.
Fruit size is large, quality of the fruit is very good. Berries are firm, and dark blue and easy to pick.

Sunrise
A mid-season variety, 5 to 6 feet, tolerates high moisture and heavier soils.
Ripening around July 4th, averaging 10 to 12 pounds per plant, fruits are large and easy to pick.
Fruits are dark blue, and people rave about the fine flavors. The fruits maintain good quality in storage.
Sunrise is highly recommended for the u-pick grower.

Blue Crop
Height is 4-6 feet, ripening mid-July, fruit size is large, 10-20 pounds per plant.
Quality is very good; berries are firm and bright blue. Ornamental value for the bush is excellent. Good green color in summer and fiery red in fall. Very hardy and drought resistant.

Blue Gold
Height 4-5 feet, ripening late July, 12 pounds per plant average, easiest cultivar for hand harvesting. The fruits ripen uniformly, and clusters are large. Quality of the fruit is excellent, attractive color, good flavor and firm fruit makes Blue Gold an outstanding mid-late season cultivar, tolerant to fluctuating temperatures and extremely cold climates.

9 blueberry bushes are perfect for an average household. (3 early-season, 3 mid-season, 3 late-season) You will have enough blueberries for the whole family to enjoy all summer long (and lots to put in the freezer for winter)

PLANTING...

We recommend a soil pH level of 4.5 - 5.5 for blueberry plants.
Blueberries prefer full sunlight, at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
Soil needs 50% peat moss mixed in and be well drained. Roots should be kept moist, but not soaked or saturated, throughout the blueberry growing season for best fruit production.
For each plant, dig a hole about 24 inches in diameter and 6 inches deep. Mix 50% peat moss into your existing soil.
Rows are very easy to create by rototilling a strip 2' wide by your desired length. Evenly spread one large peat bale every 5 feet. Rototill the peat into the existing soil. Rows will be slightly mounded. Plant one bush every 2-1/2 feet.
For multiple rows, leave at least 5' or more between the rows for easy picking access.
Peat moss is very important for successful blueberry plant growth, providing nutrients and proper ph.

MULCHING....
1" to 2" of natural and untreated pine or cedar bark mulch is good for water retention, weed suppression and improves berry plant health by adding long term composted organic matter into your soil.

PRUNING......
Late fall/winter after the leaves have fallen off.
Every year, older more mature blueberry bushes should be pruned.
Remove any dead blueberry wood that might develop over time as the blueberry bushes age. Also take off any non-vigorous or twiggy wood. Keep the bright colored healthy, young blueberry wood. Remove blotchy-colored or short growth.

Call, text or e-mail anytime with questions or to check availability or reserve stock.

LARGE FIELD GROWN TREES.

All our field grown trees are dug fresh with our Care Tree tree-spade.

Field grown trees CANNOT BE DUG DURING THE ACTIVE GROW SEASON so they must either be dug prior to budding out in spring, usually in May, or after the grow season is done, usually by mid-September. Trees can be selected and tagged anytime, and we will hold them for you until they can be dug.

Our tree spade digs a 32-inch diameter root ball, large enough to guarantee a successful transplant and still a nice manageable size to plant yourself. We use slightly over sized baskets and preload them with a mixture of compost, peat, rich potting soil and fertilizer. Then we put the tree in and tie it all up into a nice tight root ball. Simply dig the hole, remove the stretch wrap and plant the entire root ball, basket and all. No need to dig an oversized hole and add additional peat. We use only untreated burlap and rope which quickly turns into additional compost. The wire basket is made with small diameter wire which will rust away quickly. It turns into iron in the soil. This makes planting these trees so simple and easy, anyone can do it with complete success. Keeping the root ball tied tight and secure during transport and planting protects the tree's roots from damage.
We are glad to share our tips and techniques, to help make transporting, unloading and planting your new trees as easy and simple as possible, while saving a lot of money on delivery and planting costs.
Trailer rentals are very inexpensive and work great for transporting trees. Open (flat bed) utility, equipment, car or dump trailers are ideal for ease of loading and unloading larger trees.

Visit the tree farm and tag the trees you like. We can dig, ball and load about 3 per hour while you wait, or for larger quantities we can get them ready for pickup at a later date. Call or text to check availability or reserve stock.

Birch, White,
(Betula papyrifera) FAST GROWING Also known as paper birch and canoe birch, a medium-sized tree typically reaching 60 feet. Native to northern North America.
