At the end of the 17th century Emperor Leopold I commissioned the gifted Baroque architect Bernhard Fischer Von Erlach to built a palatial hunting lodge for the heir to the throne.
The Schönbrunn Palace is a highly visited attraction throughout Vienna. To get entry into the palace, you must purchase your own ticket, the palace offers all different kinds of tours, from basic tours, to grand tours and imperial tours. Schönbrunn fell to the Turkish troops during the siege of Vienna, in 1728 Emperor Charles VI acquired the unfinished palace and made it a gift for his daughter, Maria Theresa.Lastly, Maria Theresa initiated the start of laying out the gardens in the 1770s, the architect was Johann Ferdinand Hetzendorf von Hohenberg.
