Eugène Atget: Highlights from the Mary & Dan Solomon Collection

4 August 2023

With his images of Paris, the dogged photographer Eugène Atget left behind a lasting record of a city that was on the brink of vanishing. The Getty’s recent acquisition of more than 200 photographs from a private collection includes examples from all of Atget’s major series, now on display at the Getty Center (until 5 November). Street scenes such as Rue de Chevalier de la Barre (1923) capture the looming presence of the Sacré-Cœur Basilica, while the silhouette of the photographer himself can be glimpsed in his images of shop windows such as Avenue des Gobelins (1925). Find out more on the Getty’s website.
