Family: Cnemophilidae

Description

Satinbirds from New Guinea.
They share many characteristics with the true Birds-of-Paradise and are also polygynous and sexually dimorphic.
On the other side they have rather small, weak feet and a weak bill which obligates them to a frugivorous diet.

Taxonomy

Cnemophilidae is a family in the Order Passeriformes.
The three species were formerly placed within the Birds-of-paradise, but a recent study showed, that they are not closely related to the true Birds-of-paradise but closer to the Bowerbirds.
As we follow the sequencing of Clements, they are placed here in their new family.
