Mimids are medium-sized starling-like birds found in the Americas. Many are, as the name suggests, excellent mimics. They generally have fairly plain plumages, often a mixture of grey, brown and white, though two of the mockingbirds have blue plumages and the thrashers tend to follow a thrush-like pattern of brown upperparts and speckled or streaked breasts. Many species have moderately long, slightly down-curved bills. The family includes the catbirds, mockingbirds, thrashers and tremblers (though note that the Australasian catbirds in the genus Ailuroedus and Abyssinian Catbird Parophasma galinieri are in different families: Ptilonorhynchidae and Sylviidae respectively).
