Llangollen riverside scenery

Llangollen is a small historic Town situated along the River Dee in North Wales. The town is picturesque with traditional architecture and scenes which are much like those depicted in European fairytales. The Welsh town of Llangollen offers a great insight into traditional village life in North Wales.

The Old Llangollen Railway

The Llangollen Railway is an old railway line dating back to 1862, the tracks run through the town along the scenic riverside and span a total of 10 Miles, 7.5 miles are still active today. The railway stops at 4 stations all with their own unique sights and nature nearby. You can hop on and hop off at any of these 4 places. This is a great way to view some of the nearby towns. The train journey offers countryside views and allows you to view the scenery of North Wales in a historic transport method.

Pontcysyllte Aqueduct

Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the must-see spots near Llangollen Town. This historic waterway with beautiful scenic views was built along the River Dee in 1805 and runs 11 miles through the Llangollen Canal. The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct was designed to carry boats over the bridge through its narrow canal. Boat tours are available in traditional narrowboats, or if you prefer to tour the waterway with a gentle walk then the paths are easy to navigate.

Historic buildings which are now riverside pubs and hotels sit on the River Dee, whilst the main shopping streets host local shops and cafes. Finding a good lunch or dinner here in a traditional pub is easy. Dining or shopping in one of these beautiful riverside buildings is part of the charm of Llangollen in North Wales so don’t forget to take a good look around. If you are tired of the business of the town the river banks offer a tranquil spot to relax and watch the flowing River Dee.
