16 ways Jennifer Lopez makes 51 look 31
Avoids the sun, sleeps a lot...I'm calling it, she's a vampire.
The 2020 American Music Awards took place on Sunday and by far the star of the night was Jennifer Lopez, who stole the show with an epic Flashdance inspired performance... complete with some iconic wet hair.
After watching Jennifer throw herself around the stage and straddling that chair, I will bet you a fiver that you have googled 'How old is Jennifer Lopez', because the woman literally does not age. That six pack, that face, that booty...the 51-year-old singer/actress and mother of two not only looks incredible, but she has more energy than a toddler.
Life is not fair.
We've been doing some research and we've discovered that no, she hasn't been quaffing down polyjuice potion, but rather working incredibly hard... no quick fixes here. Not only does she never skip a workout (in fact she does multiple workouts a day) but she also fills up on protein (not sugar like us), avoids the sun and refuses to go anywhere near three very specific food groups.
All of that and we haven't even got to the her glycolic acid packed skincare routine yet. Basically the woman is a dedicated, motivated machine.
So if you're looking to do a Cher (or should that be a Jlo?) and turn back time, here's everything you need to know, from her diet, to her workout routine and of course her skincare secrets (which she is soon to capitalise on with her very own line)...
She adapted to home workouts during lockdown
In an interview with Spanish-language radio station, El Zol 107.9, Jennifer admitted that just like us she struggled with lockdown, but offered her advice to help get through it: "Do a little workout at home, do something that's going to make you feel good. Cook something you like, lift yourself up, keep going."
In fact Alex Rodriguez shared their 20 minute at-home workout on Instagram, which consists of four sets of five exercises: a 400m run, 15 kettlebell swings, 10 push-ups, 15 overhead shoulder presses, and 15 bent-over rows.
She never skips a workout
For most of us, our birthday means a day/week of total excess...not for Jenny from the block. As she revealed in one of her Instagram posts, "Feeling like superwoman after the show tonight!! When I started this run I thought omg 15 shows in 27 days that's a lot... but I made a promise to myself that instead of letting it wear me down I would be even stronger at the end of it... I will work out and be in the best shape of my life... There were moments I was tired and there was travel and I had to fit in my workouts where I could... But here we are with only 3 shows left!! And I am having so many emotions but mostly just feeling strong, happy and grateful!!"
She swears by glycolic acid
Glycolic acid skincare works as a chemical exfoliator on the skin by dissolving dead skin cells and gently resurfacing. As well as removing dead surface cells it also encourages cell turnover, which is ideal for sun-damaged, mature skin. So it's no wonder that Jennifer revealed to People that she loves using glycolic for a "healthy glow".

She fills up on protein
It doesn't take a genius to work out that Jlo has a very clean diet...I mean just look at the six pack, but that doesn't mean she doesn't get cravings. The only difference (literally, the only single one...) between myself and Jlo is the fact she doesn't give into those cravings and instead fills up on protein, as she told Hello:
"Protein is my go-to whenever I start having cravings. It fills me up and keeps me full longer. It's a great muscle fuel."
She works out early
Taking to Instagram, Jlo shared a pic of her new leggings before starting her morning working routine. With the caption "Up and at 'em rise and shine...about to get in this workout in my new leggings" you can tell she didn't get that body by hitting snooze every morning.
She never sunbathes
And not because she's a descendant of Edward Cullen. It's no secret that UV exposure destroys collagen and elastic fibres in the skin, causing premature ageing. Which is why Jenny from the Block avoids that big, hot, shiny star as much as possible. As she explained to InStyle:
"I am a firm believer in SPF. I try not to stay out in the sun too long."
There are three things she won't touch
We all know that alcohol, coffee and smoking aren't good for our skin, but we still indulge in at least two of them on the regular, not Jlo though, as she told US Weekly:
"I don't drink, smoke, or have caffeine. That really wrecks your skin as you get older." Well that's us screwed then...
She gets a lot of zzz's
There's one thing you won't find Jennifer doing and that's indulging in our favourite night time habit...Netflix, as she explained to InStyle.
"The number one tip is to always get enough sleep. I can’t stress this enough. Ideally I would love to get nine or 10 hours of sleep, but either way, I always make sure I get at least eight."
No sun, lots of sleep...sounds like a vampire to me.
She swears by this moisturiser
Despite reports that Jen smothers herself in £300 pots of La Mer moisturiser, she confessed on an episode of Watch What Happens Live that she actually swears by Dr Hauschka's Rose Day Cream, which she buys in Whole Foods.

She has not one, but two personal trainers
If the thought of hiring a personal trainer terrifies you, spare a thought for Jlo who revealed to US Weekly that she has two.
"When I am in New York I work out with David Kirsch - he's an amazing trainer. When I'm in LA, I work with Tracy Anderson. I like the balance that they both give me. They have two totally different approaches. I like switching it up with my body."
Hmmm maybe we should renew that gym membership after all.
She is religious about cleansing
She drinks more than her 8 glasses
Obviously doing all that exercise works up a thirst, which is why Jen is all about the H20 life, as she told Hello:
"First of all, hydrate. Drinking plenty of water, especially before a workout, can help you push harder and get more out of your exercise routine."
She eats her greens
I know you want us to tell you that Jlo looks like this on a diet of Nandos and diet coke but the truth is eats a very clean, unprocessed diet, as she told US Weekly:
"We eat a lot of green vegetables, asparagus, Brussel sprouts, broccoli and kale. I love to cook, I cook a lot of stuff, I love cooking Puerto Rican food because that's what I grew up on."
She is dedicated
In an interview with Access Hollywood, Jennifer's fiance, Alex Rodriguez revealed that performing at the Superbowl had been "a dream of hers, her whole life". It's no wonder then that she started her strict training regime early, with Alex explaining in November 2019 that she had already been training for six weeks.
And just LOOK what it all does for her
At Milan Fashion Week, Jennifer Lopez walked for Versace wearing the same iconic green dress by the designer that she wore to the Grammy Awards in February 2000. She was was 31 back then and, honestly, she looks no different.
