Jason Bourne fans rejoice! We've just been gifted with some brand new images of Matt Damon in character as the tortured action hero, including a new still from the upcoming Jason Bourne.

Damon opened up about what fans can expect from the film in this month's redesigned Total Film magazine, and from the first accompanying picture it looks like Bourne is more than ready to rejoin the fight.

As for Bourne's mental state, however, Damon told Total Film that we can expect him to be a little more brooding.

"I guess I could say in broad terms he's not in a good place," he teased.

But that's not to say that fans can't expect some exciting things from Jason Bourne, as the actor revealed that there's a pretty cool scene shot in Paddington Basin.

"It's a really good set piece," he enthused. "And a really nice scene where Bourne's trying to get information from this operative and hanging him off a roof at Paddington."

So far, so Jason Bourne then, but director Paul Greengrass was also keen to note how much has changed since Damon last appeared as the character in 2007's The Bourne Ultimatum.

"Part of the most interesting thing about doing the film was it made you think just how dynamically the world has changed since 2007, 2008," Greengrass said.

"You were able to set Bourne in this quite new landscape with different concerns and different loyalties."

One thing we can definitely be sure of though is that there's no cross over with The Bourne Legacy.

"It's not anything to do with it at all," Greengrass added. "It was important to me that that not be part of our equation."

Jason Bourne will be released in the UK on July 27.
