25 Game of Thrones stars you forgot were in Doctor Who
Westeros is bigger on the inside.
It may seem on the surface that HBO behemoth Game of Thrones and long-running BBC series Doctor Who don't have much in common. But as you are about to discover, many actors have crossed the wall into a world bigger on the inside. And vice versa.
BE WARNED: Spoilers for both follow...
Mark Addy
Game of Thrones: King Robert Baratheon, who died back in the first season.
Doctor Who: Will be seen in Jodie's Whittaker's first series finale, 'The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos'.
Samantha Spiro
Game of Thrones: Appeared in the sixth season as Melessa, wife of Randyll Tarly.
Doctor Who: Popped up in Peter Capaldi's last series finale as love interest for Matt Lucas' Nardole, Hazran.
Faye Marsay
Game of Thrones: Appeared throughout the fifth and sixth seasons as The Waif but was killed by Arya Stark after some unpleasantness.
Doctor Who: Played the brilliant Shona in festive outing, 'Last Christmas'. Had Jenna Coleman left, Steven Moffat was lining her up to be the next companion.
Rupert Vansittart
Game of Thrones: Bronze Yohn, aka Lord Yohn Royce, has dipped in and out of the series since its fourth season. Will no doubt be seen in the eighth.
Doctor Who: Another luminary possessed by a Slitheen. This time, the army's General Asquith.
David Bradley
Game of Thrones: Lord Walder Frey came a cropper at the hands of Arya Stark in season six. Don't despair though, he was nearly 100 years old.
Doctor Who: Bradders popped in 2012's 'Dinosaurs on a Spaceship' (written by current showrunner Chris Chibnall) but more memorably made his mark as the First Doctor in 'Twice Upon a Time'.
Thomas Brodie-Sangster
Game of Thrones: Played greenseer Jojen Reed. Kicked around for seasons three and four but was offed by his sister Meera in a mercy killing.
Doctor Who: Like Harry Lloyd, also starred in 'Human Nature / The Family of Blood'. Thomas played Tim Latimer, a boy with better than average telepathic abilities. Just like his GoT counterpart.
Iain Glen
Game of Thrones: Has played Jorah Mormont throughout the run and will be seen soon in the final season.
Doctor Who: The tragic Father Octavian in River Song / Weeping Angel story, 'The Time of Angels / Flesh and Stone'.
Joe Dempsie
Game of Thrones: Bastard blacksmith Gendry, a stalwart of the show since its start.
Doctor Who: Played Cline, a solder fighting against the duck-faced Hath in 'The Doctor's Daughter'. Was tricked by the titular character thus leading to her, the Doctor and Donna's escape.
Liam Cunningham
Game of Thrones: Has appeared in every season since the second as Davos Seaworth and will be seen in the final next year. Whovians may note his first name is a bit Daleky-sounding.
Doctor Who: Captain Zhukov of Soviet submarine Firebird, which encountered a trapped Ice Warrior in 'Cold War'.
Tobias Menzies
Game of Thrones: Plays Edmure Tully who, as far as we know, is not dead. We assume he's still a captive of the Lannisters.
Doctor Who: A second 'Cold War' star, Menzies portrayed Lieutenant Stepashin on board the aforementioned Firebird. The story was written by Mark Gatiss; speaking of whom...
Mark Gatiss
Game of Thrones: Envoy from the Iron Bank of Braavos, Tycho Nestoris. Will be seen once more in the final run of instalments.
Doctor Who: After writing two episodes, Gatiss finally got on screen in 'The Lazarus Experiment' opposite David Tennant's Time Lord. Mark continued to write for the show and was seen again under heavy prosthetics in 'The Wedding of River Song' and once more, with a moustache, in 'Twice Upon a Time'.
