Art and Culture

Kunstakademie or Museum Kunstpalast, Heinrich Heine or the New Fall Festival. World-ranking modern art, opera, ballet, theater, literature or music: Düsseldorf is perfectly positioned in terms of culture.

Düsseldorf’s roots as a city of art stretch a long way back into the past: With his engagement as a generous patron and lover of art, Jan Wellem led Düsseldorf’s evolution into a modern major city over three hundred years ago.

The outstanding art collection, which he built up with his second wife Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici, ensured that Düsseldorf became famous across Europe as a cultural center. Since then, the city of Heine and Schumann has always been at the leading edge when it comes to culture.

You’ll find more information on the subject under Art in Düsseldorf.
