I owned an Ecko grapefruit knife which worked very well, however, my dog chewed up the wooden handle. I liked the knife so much that I ordered a new one on Ebay, which works as well as the last one. Considering the low price, this is an excellent value.

This so-called Ekco grapefruit knife is NOT like the original Ekco "Made in USA" grapefruit knife. It's made in China and does not have anywhere near the curve to it that the original knife had. I have both, and it's night and day. What I ended up doing was bending this knockoff knife as close to the shape of the original as I could. But for those who don't have the original as a guide, it would be impossible to recreate. And without the right curve the knife just doesn't work the way it's supposed to (and the way it used to before being farmed out to China). Normally, I don't have any bias against products made in China, but in this case, the difference is simply too much to ignore -- or excuse.

We bought this unit to replace one we owned and used for many years. Hopefully it will meet our expectations.

This is one of the handiest kitchen gadgets. If you are a grapefruit aficionado (and you should be), this little knife is a must have. It just whizzes around the meat of the grapefruit, separating it from the peel without loosing all the good stuff. It makes it so much easier to get every little bit of goodness.
