Chinese Dogwood-This is one of the most beautiful small landscape trees that there is. It has extremely showy white flowers that appear after the leaves form in late spring or early summer. The fruit are also interesting. They are multi-colored shades of red and yellow, anywhere from gum ball to golf ball in size. Older trees develop an exfoliating bark character that adds another facet of interest. The trees are quite fast growing yet the branching structure is sturdy and the limbs are not prone to breaking. This tree is very similar to Cornus kousa. The only real differences are the flowers, leaves and fruit are somewhat larger in chinensis, and it is slightly faster growing.
