Bull kills itself after its horns are SET ON FIRE in front of cheering crowd

A FRENZIED bull killed itself after its horns were set on fire to the screams of a cheering crowd.

Bull dies at fiesta with burning torches strapped to it's horns

Shocking video shows the half-ton animal going crazy as flaming torches light up the night sky for a Spanish custom known as Toro Embolado – the Burning of the Bulls.

Tethered to a wood post, the bull goes demented the second it is released, swaying its head as the flames flicker across its face and a man hangs on to its tail.

Within seconds, the powerful black bull twists round and charges full pelt into the wooden post, striking its heads and slumping to the ground dead.

The video was shot in the small town of Foios near Valenica during the town’s Bulls in the Streets festival, a local version of the internationally famous event held in Pamplona each summer.

Earlier in the day, the bull had gored one of the festival-goers when the animals were sent running through the streets.

Bull Defenders United posted the footage on their Facebook page with the caption: “A bull despairs with the fire on its horns and crashes against the trunk to which it was tied.

"How many lives will still be taken in the name of traditions that are nothing but barbarity?”

More than 188,000 people have viewed the footage which was sent to the animal welfare campaigners by a Spanish activist, who was praised for taking such high risks to film the barbaric scenes.

The group said: “Showing the truth is the first step to denunciation."

The Facebook footage has also attracted hundreds of comments from horrified animal lovers around the world.

One viewer wrote: “I guess it makes them seem like REAL MEN to torture a magnificent creature...yeah...really impressive.

"Surely to God no civilised society would tolerate this barbarity?”

While another added: “I'm Spanish and hate the bullfight. Most Spanish are against bullfighting, but our conservative government wouldn't move against this barbaric tradition.”

Campaigners have posted a petition on the ForceChange website calling for people to write to Ximo Puig, president of the Valencian regional government, to “end the abuse of the bulls in the Bulls in the Street Festival”.

Its sponsor says: “The bull, which had come from a local ranch, had gored a man earlier in the day as part of a bull running event, yet it is unknown if this is the reason this animal had been singled out for the torturous display.

“What we do know is that this innocent creature was tied to a wooden post and taunted…

Bull Defenders Unite posted the video on Facebook and called for an end to the custom

“As soon as the bull was released, it appeared blinded by the flames as it flailed violently and then crashed into the post within seconds, dying immediately.”

Earlier this week, Spain’s bullfight aficionados were dealt a blow when the Mallorcan parliament used a loophole to stop the blood sport on the holiday island.

Local lawmakers had been prevented from imposing an outright ban by the constitutional court in Madrid, but they hit back by making it illegal to make bulls perform for more than 10 minutes in public or for people to take sharp objects into a bull ring.
