Actress Bárbara Mori, star of hit telenovela Rubí and the critically acclaimed film La mujer de mi hermano (My brother's wife), returns to the small screen in new Pantaya original La Negociadora (The Negotiator).

Mori plays Eugenia Velazco, considered to be the best hostage negotiator in Latin America. But she's also a woman haunted by her past and a criminal father.

The 12-episode action thriller kicks off with a bang as a group of criminals threaten to blow up hostages if they don't get their ransom.

Mori shares what attracted her to the project.

"The story caught my attention right from the start. Juancho Cardona, who is the director, and Manolo Cardona, who is the producer, are very good friends of mine. I already knew they had this project in mind for a long time. When they send me the script and I read it, I loved it. I couldn't tear myself away from the script. I wanted to know what was going to happen to all the characters in the series. It's super well written. The plot totally hooks you," says Mori.

The Uruguayan-born Mexican actress also liked playing a challenging role.

"What I like about the character is that she is a criminologist, a kidnapping negotiator. But she is a woman who is also vulnerable. She has many childhood wounds that have not healed. This affects her day-to-day, her negotiations and everything she does in her life. So the contrast between being this kidnapping negotiator must be confident and self-assured, without letting doubts and emotions overcome her...that contrast seems beautiful to me, because contrasts are what life is all about."

La Negociadora marks Mori's return to television after a 5-year absence.

"The last time I did television was Dos Lunas [a 13-episode thriller that aired on MundoFOX Latin America]. Since then, I was focused on making films."

La Negociadora is directed by Juancho Cardona and David Ruiz. Written by Raúl Prieto, Rosa Clemente, Connie Acosta and Leo Felipe Campos, the original series is executive-produced by Colombian actor Manolo Cardona (El Cartel, Narcos) and produced by his company 11:11 Films & TV, Star Contents and Claro Video.

Pantaya will premiere the first 3 episodes of the original series in the U.S. and Puerto Rico on February 11. It will drop 3 new episodes every Thursday. Claro Video will premiere the series in Latin America simultaneously.

The series also stars Diego Cadavid (Nicky Jam: El Ganador), Carlos Aragon (Cuna de Lobos), Ximena Ayala (Doña Flor y sus dos maridos, Capadocia), Adrián Ladrón (La 4ta Compañía), Karina Gidi (Los Adioses), Horacio García Rojas (Diablero), Marcela Guirado (Todo Mal, Silvana Sin Lana), Aldo Gallardo (Los Miserables, La Patrona), Albi de Abreu (Por amar sin ley, Luis Miguel: La Serie), Iván López (Amor en custodia) and Marco Treviño (Malos Habitos).
