Heavy tour from Dömös on the Zöld sáv.

The Visegrádi Mountains had been formed by the virtue of a strong volcanic activity about 15-14 million years ago. Generally it is peculiar to the tertiary volcanic activities of Hungary that the volcanos throw out a large amount of volcanic dust ad various stones in huge explosions. The size of these stones can vary from a few cubic centimetres even to a few cubic metres. The material that came to surface had mixed with others while it flew down the slopes but at the high temperature chemical and physical reactions have also occurred; the components agglomerated, remelted and partly crystallized. Geologists have named the rocks that were formed during this age andesit after the South-American Andes, where this stone type is present in the largest quantily. The volcanic layers, which easily weathers, have emerged and due to the processes at the surface - wind, water and temperature - a quick erosion has started. The accumulated precipitation carved deep valleys to the sides of the hills. The Rám Cleft in the side of Rám Hill is an especially beautiful part of the Three Spring Valley. As you along the tourist trail in the Cleft the most spectacular geological values of the National Park appear. The narrow valley with its step walls reveals the different volcanic layers. In the soft tuff high and vertical walls have been developed. On those lava layers which are more resistant to water rapids and waterfalls emerged. The Rám Hill above the valley is one of the core areas of the biosphere reserve where besides the Sweet Rocket, the Burning Bush and the Carex raviolis (sedge), the Variegated Iris can also be found which appears in the logo of the Pilis Bioshpere Reserve. In the holes of the old beech trees the Stock Dove and the Black Woodpecker are hatching.
