If there's one that we've learned over the past couple of months, it's that Cillian Murphy can wear a suit better than anyone else. Whether it's the Victorian playboy-coded one that he showed up to the Golden Globes in last month, or the pinstripe two-piece that he rocked at the SAG Awards over the weekend, the Irish actor just, well… suits everything. And this was made even clearer at the 35th Annual Producers Guild Awards in Hollywood, where he did his best impression of a very fashion-forward J. Robert Oppenheimer.
Spotted on the red carpet with his fellow co-stars Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr (or his “Oppenhomies,” as he likes to call them), Murphy wore a classic black shirt and black tie combo, and he layered this with a wool blazer in a dark charcoal hue by Versace. He then jumped into a pair of neatly-creased trousers and some shiny leather Chelsea boots (because of course!)
Compared to some of his most recent looks – like the sexy, sheer shirt that he slipped on during the Oppenheimer premiere last summer – it's a lot more low-key. However, longer-than-usual tie and high-waisted trousers, it's also very similar to the fits that he wore when he played the father of the atomic bomb in the 2023 epic. Even the super wide lapels on his suit look like something straight out of the '40s.
Now, all Cillian Murphy needs is a pork pie hat, a dozen cameras, a multi-million dollar budget, an atomic bomb (or two), and he'll be more than ready for a sequel. Does anyone have Christopher Nolan's Whatsapp?
