Plant description

Morus alba 'Pendula', the weeping mulberry, is a deciduous small tree with a lovely pendulous growth habit. It is a fast growing tree when young, and the foliage is glossy green and lush and dense. A great ornamental shade tree, the branches will sweep to the ground. It flowers with small green blooms in spring, followed by greenish yellow edible fruit in late spring to summer time. Tolerant of frost and dry spells once established. It is an easy care tree, rarely troubled by pests or disease. The fruit is bird attracting. The root system is vigorous, so should not be planted near drains.

Mulberry trees like a sunny position, and do best with regular watering until established. Fertilise in spring with a general purpose fertiliser. The leaves are good food for silk worms.
