Friends,

We have now an intermedier summary list of Greg Williams before further investigations, just on the midway. Despite of some uncertainity, I think you all are interested to see, where we came to till now.

We take kindly all possible infos, which helps to go ahead even to me or Henk van Kempen.

I installed here some earlier collected photos too from the Conifer Treasury 3.0 database.

Earlier new photos of the thread are not repeated.

We have 2 further Abies cephalonica selections reported, which need some more investigations:

Abies cephalonica Hunnewell Broom

Published by Dax: 2006 Dax Herbst in the ACS database, listed at Bob in 2003 R. L. Fincham USA

2003 Coenosium Gardens USA. This plant is dwarf and appears to be globose with a growth rate of about 2" per year. Probably the same as /W.B. Hunnewell/

Listed at Bethlehem Nursery, Bethlehem, CT USA

Abies cilicica Hunnewell Broom

We have to tell, that Gary Gee listed a

Abies cilicica x nordmanniana Hunnewell, and also a

Abies nordmanniana Hunnewell WB

This must be cleared, as possible.

We have an

Possible synonyms:

Abies nordmanniana 'KBNG W.B.' does have several synonyms like: 'Broom H', W.B. Hunnewell' and 'Hunnewell Broom' Edwin Smits text.

I believe this broom was found at the Hunnewell Estate in Mass. by Greg. He sent me scions over 20 years ago and I have offered it for sale at various times. I wouldn't be surprised if the plants in your collection can be traced back to me as the American source. Greg has explored the Hunnewell Estate in the past and knows the plants and has found a couple of fir brooms there. Bob Fincham text.

Abies concolor Kate Brook Dwarf' listed at Cadys Falls

Picea abies Mill Creek Broom

An irregular, globose dwarf with distinctive bluish needles. Introduced by Greg Williams. 2 in per year. Very tidy. Cadys Falls Nursery USA text.

Here we could think on confusion with /Millstream Broom/ ? at M. & J. Kristick Nurs., PA USA, or on the other hand Gary Gee has a Picea pungens 'Millcreek Broom'. Further Gary listed a Picea pungens 'MillBrook #1' too. These themes also for later.

Picea abies Perrys Gold

An irregular, more or less upright bush with striking lemon-yellow new growth for about six weeks in the spring. Eye catching from 50 yards away. 6 in per year. A Greg Williams introduction found in Vt. Cadys Falls Nursery USA text.

A fast growing golden form that holds its color all season long, although it stands out better in winter and does not burn in full sun once it is established. Introduced by Greg Williams, he considers it the best of the year round yellows, (at least so far, he has some new stuff in trials). Arrowhead text.

Here are some Curly Kurly Kurley etc. names, probably decrescents of Pinus strobus Torulosa in any crossings or seedlings. Hopely we are able to clear the situation. With this company" Id like to see more photos, sources of the plants or any datas, which could help, if its possible.

This must be Tiny Kurls (KBN Contorta Small, Curly Globe #2, Vercurve)

Pinus strobus Tiny Curls

Listed at Don Howses Porterhowse Farms OR USA

Photo Burdan Nursery, Lubska POL

Who cares to details, could see the label of the plant: C and K together in the name this visions the real situation: nobody knows, how these plants are to be named

Two more descriptions in the Curly company

Kurley #2 One of a group of slow growing, contorted white pines, resulting from cross pollination

between Pinus strobus Contorta and an unnamed witches broom. Both the needles and the branches are

twisted, creating a dense pyramidal plant that is easily candled to maintain a handsome dwarf plant for

small spaces. A choice new plant from Greg Williams at Kate Brook Nursery. 4-6 in per year. Cadys Falls Nursery USA

Kurley #4 Essentially the same as #2 but the needles remain clumped together. Cadys Falls Nursery USA

Pinus strobus Reed's Pit

A handsome round bush with long, soft, twisted needles and short tuffets on the ends of the branches. A Greg Williams discovery from a gravel pit in Wolcott, Vt. 6 in per yr. Cadys Falls Nursery USA text.

Pinus strobus Stony Brook

Listed at Isely and Stanley

For outstanding drama, stake this prostrate, weeping form of White Pine, and enjoy its distinctive contorted branch work. Clusters of long, widely spaced needles decorate the ends of strongly draping branches, leaving the tree's open form and gorgeous silver bark on display. Selected by Greg Williams at Vermont's Kate Brook Nursery, the large pine is a handsome, ornamental accent or it cascades down and covers a bank beautifully. Iseli text.
