How does your pine fares in winter?

This clone from Elizabethtown, PA has withstood -22 F/-30 C in the past and is one of very few known hardy clones. I'm currently growing seedlings from Hidalgo, MX and hoping to find a hardy specimen from a grove that has cones up to 16"/40 cm in length.

wow thats some impresive hardiness,good luck on those cones, do you still have dose mexican spruces, do they tolerate the same climate conditions?

Largest cone is now 6"/15 cm long but I doubt it will ever reach the ground! LOL

Seed(Pinus ayacahuite x Pinus stylesii) from a very small cone I "dissected" and most seem to be filled....I may go ahead and try germinating them!

Actually I'm not depending on this trial "clutch"! I'll wait 'till the other cones are brown or beginning to open. I also have a cone of the Boone County Arboretum, Union, KY 'aya. clone pollinated with P. stylesii!

I gave "The Biltmore Estate" a P. aya. graft of the Westtown School clone also pollinated with P. stylesii.
