Though not on Abies, I've seen this on other seedlings (Picea). Almost a kind of early lammas growth. If they have the ferts and water they need they should be fine.

Hi. Where did you get Abies vejarii?! I’m looking all over for seedlings and seed. Please tell me. I bet others would like to know as well! All the Mexican fir and spruce species and the Mexican variety of Douglas-fir are of special interest to me, but especially Abies vejarii. These trees might need our help as the climate warms and they could adapt well to some parts of the southeastern US. I’m also curious as to where you are growing these seedlings. What sort of climate? Thanks for any and all answers!

I live near the Abies vejarii forest sites in Coahuila and Nuevo Leon. I have a couple seedlings. Coming October I will try to get some cones

Lots of "Abies lovers" surely envy the chance to acquire seed of this species!....Abies durangensis var coahuilensis/ Abies coahuilensis which is found on the eastern flanks of Cerro Potosi, Nuevo Leon is also desirable!

I was able to obtain A. vejarii from Stanley & Sons last fall, but I do not see one for sale are their web site now. I have not seen any problems so far with this plant. I live and work in Las Cruces, New Mexico but this plant is planted in my garden on the west coast of California [Westport] so I might have missed last time I was there. Will check the growth next time I'm out there.
