According to the combined research of marque experts Marcel Massini and Dyke Ridgley, chassis number 07809 was clothed by Scaglietti during October 1965. The berlinetta is just the third roadgoing example of the long-nose body configuration fitted with CV joints, and it was the very first example to be clothed with a low-weight alloy racing body and fitted with six carburetors. Finished in Ferrari competition colors of Rosso Cina paint over a blue interior, 07809 was originally assigned for exhibition at the Paris Salon, but the 275 instead made its grand debut a month later at the Turin Motor Show in November 1965. By the end of the month a certificate of origin was issued. On Christmas Eve the berlinetta was sold through a marque dealer in Bologna to Editoriale Il Borgo S.p.A. on behalf of Luciano Conti. Signor Conti was an amateur racing driver-turned-publisher who founded a notable motorsports weekly called Autosprint. Not only does this particular 308 benefit from being finished in Oro Chairo from new, but with its designation as one of only 712 fiberglass-bodied ‘Vetroresinas’ built, surely only a handful of these cars, the most sought after of all 308s, left the factory in such an attractive hue. Built to European specifications for delivery to Germany, chassis number 20695 was delivered new to Bernard Kummer of Hadamar, Germany, a small town located inbetween Cologne and Frankfurt. There, it is thought to have been the personal car of dealership owner and renowned car collector, William Harrah. In the same year, the 365 GT 2+2 featured in a road test published in the November edition of Road & Track (available to view in the history file), in which the magazine coined the term “The Queen Mother of Ferraris” for the model. The car was originally finished in Argento Metallizzato over a Rosso leather interior. In the 1970s, the Ferrari came into the possession of singer and game show host, John Davidson, who retained the car into the 1980s. From then it passed through a series of US-based private owners over the following decades. It is understood that the car was restored in the early 2000s but was soon after damaged in an accident near Pebble Beach, thought to have then been finished in Nero over a tan interior while repairs were made, though the Ferrari has since been repainted closer to its factory-correct hue. After this point, the Ferrari returned to Europe, and it was acquired at auction by its consigning owner in 2015. In looking at the service booklet entries, this Ferrari lived in Germany for a long time and appears to have been a showroom demo car or show stand car as the warranty book is filled out by the selling dealership and then not again until being acquired by its first private owner in 1996. Following the service booklet and service records on file, this Ferrari would pass through four more owners before landing in the current owner's possession.
