Please (Don't) Mind The Gap !

Ever put up a Mind The Gap signboard in your home? Most likely NO! We see this more often in public places and offices. Why?

Hey, it is simple-- public places including offices are meant to be functional. It's mostly not about experience. Now, that serves the logic for the warning board, right ?

These two words-- mind and gap-- got me wrapped up. Don't we experience this "gap" even in our "mind" when we move across spaces - physically or mentally ? Say, between home, travel, work, customer meetings to other social gatherings with varied interest and objective.

Then a lightning reflection that came to my mind leading to this question - Does this impact our natural ability in applying the creative mind ?

Man's distinctive ability to imagine has created the world that we experience now. It keeps us striving for more. This imagination and aspiration drove the civilized and structured way of doing things. However, we keep reading how most of the great ideas were incubated not within the confines of research labs. Why does this happen so ?

Think about it-- we live in the era of AI, connectivity and automation. Yet, cognitive flexibility, emotional intelligence, critical thinking and skills like empathy have their place in the Top 10 skills for 2020 (world economic forum report).

Standardization and governance helps to scale, while disruptions have atypical heritage, It does take a bend on the natural flow of doing things as we move in to a defined spaces. Can we trick the mind to float free by nurturing the below skills ?

Being Genuine and Mindful

Easily regarded as the most important aspect of our lives to be successful. A recent study research with LinkedIn global members, found that 73% of purpose-driven employees are satisfied with their job. Luis Von Ahn of Duolingo says he prefers "missionaries to mercenaries" when it comes to hiring the right candidates. There isn't any cheat code for it than truly practicing it and truly reflect a future-proof skill to have.

Building Purpose and Creativity

Open and creative mind keeps the energy flow on; irrespective of our work space, every human being is intelligent and imaginative. Many times, the individuals marked as not fit in one task could turn out to be an extra ordinary in some other. It could just be that the person got hit on the "domesticated" GAP sign board mentioned above. Keeping up a purposeful posture would be the key. Let that fire in the belly find it's course itself by not bending around "mindfully"!

Now would you really mind this "GAP" ? How does your mind trickle it around for seamless transition ?
