Habit
Usually large shrub, rarely small tree, 1.5-3 m tall, 1-2 m wide; asymmetrical crown, loose, with upright twig tips, fast-growing
Blossom
Plentiful, pink-red or light crimson in loose, 15 cm long racemes, June
Leaves
Pinnate, leaflets elliptical; shoots late, end of May, bronze, later bluish green, autumn colours from mid-September, greenish yellow
Roots
Shallow, far-reaching, collect nitrogen, sometimes forming runners; sensitive to soil compaction, paving and floods
Demands
Sun, avoids shade; extremely resistant to heat and drought, likes warmth, usually frost hardy; tolerates extremely low humidity; resistant to urban pollution; not sensitive to air and soil pollution, tolerant of salt; needs wind protection
