If he’s not the most famous mobster, Al Capone is undoubtedly the most cinematically interesting. From the Brian De Palma-directed masterpiece The Untouchables to the recent Tom Hardy-starring Capone, movies have chronicled various facets of the crime boss who ruled over Chicago. And they tend to be stacked with massive acting talent. While TV series have their own fascinating examinations of Capone—definitely check out Boardwalk Empire and Stephen Graham’s great Capone performance if you haven’t already—this list points to the more impressive movies that explore Capone, even when he’s a relatively minor character.

Capone (1975)

Like the earlier Al Capone, this 1975 movie starring Ben Gazzara as Capone provides a wider picture of Capone’s rise and fall. It also has an enjoyably trashy energy no doubt thanks to production handled by Roger Corman.

Dillinger and Capone (1995)

It’s hard to be mad at any movie starring Martin Sheen and F. Murray Abraham, but especially when said movie has them playing Dillinger and Capone, respectively.
