A beautiful, large conifer that can reach about 30 m (100 ft) tall, native to western Turkey between about 700 and 1500 m (2300 and 5000 ft). It is considered endangered in habitat. The Trojan Fir has a pyramidal crown and dark green, needlelike leaves. Abies nordmanniana subsp. equi-trojani makes a wonderful ornamental suited for temperate climates in USDA Zones 4 to 9 and is one of the more drought tolerant firs. It also makes a very attractive Christmas tree. Seeds should be cold stratified for a month after sowing.
